Here is the famous Ernie Brown, my best studio mate, posing next to a new poppy painting I just started. It is poppy season here in Durango again, which means several folks will find me in their flower beds at sunrise... just as that poor unsuspecting man did this morning.

Hi everyone, it seems I have been doing a terrible job at staying in touch with you all, I can blame the holidays, but only so far back. The summer and Fall were very busy for me, I had a very successful "Super Amazing Art Show" with four other wildly talented artists, Cindy Coleman, Amy Felker, Miki Harder and Heather Leavitt. After that, Sam and I were involved in Durango Open Studios, which occurred at the end of September. We opened up our studio to the masses, talked about the process, the motivation, inspiration, etc., and of course, showed the work. A very successful event as well. The following day, headed off to the east coast for a couple weeks, and then... well, those crazy holidays began.
So there's where I've been, but in all my hustle and bustle, I've managed to put out a few paintings.

Most recently, however, I've quit the part-time job I've had for the past four years, and am giving the full-time artist thing a go. Mostly, I needed to dedicate myself completely to the new series I'm working on, highlighting the beautiful ladies of this beautiful town I live in.
So, here's to me, and here's my art:

Let's cut right to the chase here, this is Cindy. She was kind enough to do some modeling for me, and here is the first completed painting of her. She will be part of my upcoming show, The Women of Durango. This piece is 18"x24" oil on panel.

My painting, How Now? was juried into the La Plata Open Space Conservancy's annual art auction, to be held on January 28th in Durango. the painting is 36"x48", oil on canvas.

Here she is again, her name is Clementine, and we found her in Tennessee. This piece is about 24"x18", and is for sale through Oohs & Aahs, Durango.

Here is a lovely little pop-art style floral piece. Available through Studio 55 at Wildflower, Durango. It is about 13"x9"

Here is a collection of miniatures that I did while I had the flu. They are assorted sizes, none bigger than 3"x7" (I put the Sharpie and the quarter in there for reference), all oil, beautifully framed, and all selling at Durango Bagel for $85 each. Collect all seven! (please email me for close-ups of any of these.)

New wildflowers for Postcards

Hi all, here is the new image I've been working on for the next round of wildflower-growing postcards. I should be starting to print them in a couple days, until then, I've been printing them in acrylic ink on paper. Here is one on gold flecked paper:

This last week has found me intrigued by screen printing. Particularly the idea of what I'm printing on, which is seeded paper. I have been producing postcards out of seed paper, which is a handmade paper (made in Boulder, CO) impregnated with wildflower seeds. I have come up with two different wildflower images, which I have been printing on the front of these postcards. Because they are intened for burying in the earth, I made the printing ink with organic whole wheat flour, water, salt and natural red earth pigment. On the back I use a pencil to apply the basic postcard markings, and have gently attached a tiny note with brief instruction.

Now when you buy a postcard, you can write a little note to your friend, and mail it to them. They get it, bury it, water it, and it grows flowers! What a beautiful idea! So these postcards I am selling in bundles of four, tied in a little bow with some raffia.

Here are the three images I have printed so far.
The two wildflower designs are available in a very limited edition series of seeded postcards, and each have a just a few prints on paper or canvas as well.
The Windmill image is available in a limited edition of 8 paper prints, and also on two t-shirts and two tank tops.

Greeting Cards

I have received several requests in the last year or so for greeting cards of some paintings. I've been letting the ideas brew in my head for some time, and just recently produced greeting cards of nine of my paintings. Below is a picture of the assortment of images available, as well as a pack of five cards as they come, in a clear sleeve tied with raffia. These cards will be available at the August 29th show, as well as online from here.
I also do assortment packs of cards, so specify whether you would like a single image pack or an assortment.

The price for a 5 pack of cards and envelopes is $15

Here is a more recent painting of little Kizmet, a kitten we had for just over a month. She stole our hearts, and won't soon be forgotten.
This painting is about 23"x23", and still needs a little work.

The Jellyfish cube.

This idea has been swimming around in my head for months, and jellyfishes have been making their way into my daily life more and more until just agreed with the universe to paint some. The cube idea came out of nowhere I can point to, but it is made out of six joined pieces of 3/4" MDF board, and then sanded and painted as you see here. Currently, it is only in its childhood, further detail shall be added and another jellyfish on the backside. I will post a picture as soon as I am done.
